How to Import Public Data¶
Users can import phenotype and/or trait descriptor data when available from community databases. First, select the “Data Import” section from the accordion menu on the BIMS home page. Under the subheading “Public Data”, users can select ‘Traits’, ‘Phenotypic data’, or ‘Genotypic data’, depending on which type of data you would like to import. To import public trait descriptor sets, select ‘Traits’. The “Import Traits” page will open and users can toggle through the available sets under “Trait descriptor sets”. Users can then check the box next to each trait they wish to import and select “Import trait(s)” to import to their BIMS program.
Similar to importing public traits, publicly available phenotypic and genotypic trials can also be imported. Users can select ‘Phenotypic data’ or ‘Genotypic data’ which will open the corresponding page. Users can toggle through available public trials using the dropdowns then select ‘Import Trials’ to import the data.
Once public phenotype data has been imported into your breeding program, users can browse them in the “Trait” subsection under “Manage Breeding.” You can view all trait descriptors or filter by your Program Descriptor Group or the imported trial. Imported traits will appear with an asterisk (*) next to the trait name.
Users can match public traits that are the same as their program traits. To do so, click the dropdown menu for “Admin Menu for Trait” and click “Match”.
This will open the “Match Traits” tab, under which users can select identical traits between your program and imported traits then select “Match traits”. Users can also unmatch traits under the “Unmatch Traits” section by selecting the trait you wish to unmatch and clicking “Unmatch traits”.
After matching traits together, your program data and the publicly imported trait data can be viewed together as one singular trait.
